Last night Camille and I went to a place called Sweet Basil for some sushi. It was an interesting experience to say the least. I wish I had taken my camera to take a picture because the sushi was presented to us on dishes that are little boats. it was really neat. next time I'll remember.
I have no clue what curry is like so I was a little nervous to get a regular entree, so I got a california roll and sushi nigiri (chef's choice). I loved the california roll which was I think crab meat with avacado and cucumber in a seaweed wrap with rice on the outside. This is your basic sushi that you could get in your local supermarket. The chefs choice was much more interesting. There were a couple of white fish that I couldn't identify (not a bad thing), salmon, barbequed eel, shrimp, and crab. I could probably do the sushi thing again but no salmon for me. I was doing good until that point and then I wanted to gag. I'd actually never had salmon before but I had heard about the strong fishy taste. Well, it is just as present when dipped in soy sauce and the pice of fish was a little big to try and eat at once. So that's when the taste + texture combo really got to me. yuck!
The best part of the night however was trying to get Camille to hold her chopsticks right. I've never used chopsticks before but it was surprisingly easy. I swear we worked on her grip for a good 15 minutes before the food came. But it was a lot of fun, and she managed to be able to eat with the chopsticks as well. Maybe I'll try using chopsticks again tomorrow night if we finally get my parents to go to Fuji Steakhouse with us.

Curry and sushi in the same place? That seems strange to me. *shrug* Anyway, curry is yummy, but I'm not sure if you would be able to enjoy it. I don't know what you can and can't have...it's hot, kinda spicy. I always get curry when we eat Thai food because it's always mixed with coconut milk and I always get it very, very mild. The creamy compliments the spicy, tones it down a bit, but it still tingles. I'm sure I'm not making it sound as yummy as it is.
Rachel, Mother and I are sushi addicts. Rachel's fav (and one of mine) is a Dynamite roll, but it seems to be made differently everywhere. Next time I get some, I'll look to see exactly what is in it, but I know down here the seaweed wrapping is tempura fried and it's topped with tiny drops of mayo and hot sauce. My absolute fav is an Alex roll, but that's just at Mana-Kai (it's named for the son of the owners) which is a local sushi house. It's basically a Philadelphia roll with salmon eggs and shrimp sauce on top. Yummy!!

Always. Always. Always.
Wow, rereading that sentence annoyed the heck out of me.
Well Sweet Basil is a Thai place, but they also have a sushi bar.
Thai AND sushi! OMG, I'm in heaven. I think it's time for another vacation. =)
